Some fascinating statistics were shared during a recent webinar, sponsored by one of CCAoA’s partners, Center for Disaster Philanthropy.

  • More than 40% of Americans live in a county/parish/tribal land struck by a climate disaster in 2021.
  • During 2020 and 2021 alone, we averaged a new, major disaster response every week and a half.
  • The United States has experienced more climate disasters over the past two decades than any other nation, and nearly 8 million people have been displaced by disasters since 2010.

With this kind of reach, natural disasters and other emergencies are bound to happen when children are in child care. Estimates indicate that as of 2019, 12.5 million children under the age of 6 spent some time in a nonparental care arrangement on a weekly basis.

What can organizations, such as CCR&Rs, do to ensure that child care providers are able to keep children safe and parents informed when disasters strike?  One strategy is to offer training, technical assistance, and resources focused on child care emergency preparedness which can offer helpful tools to child care providers to help them understand how to best prepare in advance of an emergency or disaster. Child Care Aware® of America is offering a two-day training-of-trainers opportunity for individuals who train child care providers on December 6-7, 2022.

Child Care Emergency Preparedness Training-of-Trainers

Child Care Aware® of America offers training professionals and CCR&R staff the insights, strategies, and resources they need to help providers mitigate threats, reduce emotional stress, and protect the children in their care.
