Health Resource Spotlight: Daily Health Checks

The Problem:
Child care providers are expected to do a daily health check for each of the children in their care. However, not all providers are aware of what a comprehensive health check entails.

One Solution:
The Daily Health Check checklist, produced by the Child Care Health and Safety Resource Center at the University of North Carolina/Chapel Hill.

This one-page resource asks and answers fundamental questions about the daily health check, including:

  • What is it?
  • Why do it?
  • Who does it?
  • When to do it?
  • How is it done? – with specifics about what providers should look, listen, feel, and smell for

There is also a section about symptoms that may indicate a child is ill.

The Daily Health Check is available in English and Spanish.
