Paid Leave

As a leading voice for advancing a high-quality, affordable child care system for all families, we know that access to paid family and medical leave plays a vital role in achieving this vision. Yet most workers continue to lack access to paid family leave. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, only 23 percent of civilian workers have access to paid family and medical leave. This hurts U.S. businesses as well, with the combined effect of a broken child care system and a lack of paid family and medical leave leading to high rates of turnover and lost productivity to the tune of $122 billion each year. For these reasons, Child Care Aware® of America supports the Family and Medical Insurance Leave (FAMILY) Act. This bill would transform the lives of working families by providing up to 12 weeks of paid leave. This, in turn, would support working families’ economic security, promote gender equity in workplaces, and create a more level playing field for businesses of all sizes.
