Marine Corps Fee Assistance Policy Updates

  • MCCYN-PLUS Initiative (QRIS) Expands into North Carolina – Effective March 13, 2023

    The Military Services expanded the MCCYN program to include MCCYN-PLUS. The MCCYN-PLUS initiative will include community child care programs that are quality rated by their state Quality Rating and Improvement System (QRIS), in locations where nationally accredited care is unavailable. The MCCYN-PLUS initiative is currently active in Virginia, Maryland, Washington, Nevada, Florida: Miami-Dade County. On March 13, 2023, the MCCYN-PLUS initiative will launch in North Carolina.

    This initiative has no impact to families receiving fee assistance with their current provider. Families receiving fee assistance may stay with their current provider until the time that the youngest child ages out of the program, the family dis-enrolls, or the provider becomes ineligible due to non-compliance with state licensing or program policies. However, these guidelines should be taken into consideration if you are planning on changing your provider in the future.

  • Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) Accreditation – Effective January 1, 2020

    MSDE accreditation will no longer be accepted as an approved accreditation for the Military Fee Assistance Program. Military families seeking fee assistance will need to choose a provider who is nationally accredited through a DoD approved accrediting body:

    • National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC)
    • National Early Childhood Program Accreditation (NECPA)
    • National Accreditation Commission (NAC)
    • Council on Accreditation (COA)
    • Cognia, formally known as AdvancED

    If you are a military family currently receiving fee assistance at an MSDE accredited provider, you will be eligible to receive continuity of care until you the currently enrolled child ages out of the program, the family dis-enrolls, or the providers become ineligible due to non-compliance with state licensing or program policies.

  • MCCYN-PLUS Pilot Initiative (QRIS) – Effective October 1, 2019

    Effective October 1, 2019, The Military Services expanded the Military Child Care in Your Neighborhood (MCCYN) to include MCCYN-PLUS. The MCCYN-PLUS Pilot includes community-based child care centers that are quality rated by their state Quality Rating Improvement System (QRIS), in locations where nationally accredited care is unavailable.
