Susan Butler-Staub, Senior Director of Professional Development
Susan Butler-Staub is the Senior Director of Professional Development at Child Care Aware of America. She has spent the last 20 years working in North Carolina’s Early Care and Education system in a number of roles. Most recently, Susan was the Policy and Community Engagement Coordinator for the North Carolina Early Education Coalition where she worked closely with North Carolina’s early childhood workforce, advocate community, and legislators to improve policies for the early childhood system. Prior to that role, Susan served as the Program Chair of the Early Childhood Education program at Central Piedmont Community College, in Charlotte, NC.
Earlier in her career, Susan spent over 10 years as a part of North Carolina’s Child Care Resource and Referral (CCR&R) system as a trainer and technical assistance provider at the local, regional and state level and serving as the Statewide Technical Assistance and Professional Development Specialist for the CCR&R system. Before moving to North Carolina in the early 2000’s, Susan worked as an infant/toddler and preschool teacher, and in program coordination and administration for child care programs in Massachusetts. Susan is committed to advocating for the early care and education system with a special priority on supporting the workforce.
She has a bachelor’s degree in Psychology & Education/Child Study from Smith College; a master’s degree in Child Development from Tufts University; and a master’s degree in Social Policy from Brandeis University.
