Child Care Glossary

Nanny
A nanny is employed by a family in either a live-in or live-out basis. The function of a nanny is to essentially be responsible for all care of the children in the home in a largely unsupervised setting. For more information, click here .
Needs assessment
A process of determining the needs of a defined population. In this case, children, families, or child care providers.
Non-custodial parent
The parent who does not have primary care of a minor child.
Non-traditional child care
Care provided during non-traditional work hours (i.e. weekends, work either before 6am or after 7pm Monday-Friday).
Nursery school
Group programs designed for children ages 3-5. Normally they operate for 3-4 hours per day, and from 2-5 days a week.
